The Urban Design Build Studio, based out of Carnegie Mellon, is a public interest design entity founded by John Folan which exists as part of a larger social, economic and political mission under the organization PROJECT_RE. Founded By John Folan, PROJECT RE is a collaboration between three entities; The Urban Design Build Studio, which provides design services and material prototyping, Construction Junction, a supplier of locally sourced reconstituted materials, and the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh, a trade based skills training organization that provides opportunities for individuals to secure a living wage. The mission of RE is to REUSE locally sourced material from local suppliers, REBUILD disenfranchised communities by empowering local residents, and RESTORE lives through developing skills that can secure individuals wage security and through designed  interventions that bring about positive impact for the communities RE intends to serve.

The Main Focus of the Spring 2017 Semester; Constructing Inclusivity was related to combating the issues of food access in the city of Pittsburgh. The two projects that spearheaded this initiative are the FIRST COURSE kiosk, a point of sale business enterprise which provides tenants of a startup incubator space with access to food which otherwise would be difficult to find, and OV COURSE; prototypes for community bread and pizza ovens, which could be mass produced and offer entrepreneurship opportunity and future employment towards a production based business enterprise.
